Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant notched up eighth Test ton in the second innings of the ongoing first Test against England at Headingley. This was his second ton in the same Test match after he scored 134 runs off 178 balls in the first innings. With this, the 27-year-old became the first Indian wicketkeeper batter to score two hundreds in a Test match and entered the elite list.
After bowling England out for 465 and taking a small lead of six runs in the first innings, India now aim to get another big total in the second innings and set a challenging target for the hosts England. Coming to bat on day four, India lost their skipper Shubman Gill (8 off 16) early in the first session. After that, Rishabh Pant joined KL Rahul at the crease as the duo put up a partnership of 195 runs for the fourth wicket.
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul’s 100s take India’s lead beyond 300
After losing the first three wickets, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant took the Indian innings further steadily before lunch. However, in the second session, the Indian batters shifted gears and took charge of the England bowlers. Rahul was first to reach his hundred as he achieved the milestone in 202 balls. After a few moments, Pant also completed his second ton of the match in 130 deliveries as India were now in a stronger position on day four.
Rishabh Pant got out after scoring 118 runs off 140 balls hitting 15 fours and three sixes while KL Rahul top scored with 133 runs off 247 balls hitting 18 boundaries. Currently, Karun Nair is at the crease along with Ravindra Jadeja at the crease as India are leading England by more than 300 runs with five wickets in hand.
