Dindigul Dragons (DD) skipper Ravichandran Ashwin played a captain’s knock of 67(46) runs in match number 14 of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 against Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) at SCF Cricket Ground in Salem on June 16. However, he couldn’t take his team down the line as DD ended up losing the game by a small margin of eight runs with Lokesh Raj taking a five-wicket haul.
Coming to bat first, Chepauk Super Gillies posted a total of 180 runs for the loss six wickets in their 20 overs. CSG skipper Baba Aparajith scored 56(38) runs hitting three fours and three sixes, while Sunil Krishna gave finishing touches with an unbeaten 32*(18) runs. For Dindigul Dragons, Varun Chakaravarthy registered figures of 3/25, while R Ashwin, D Chandrasekar and Sandeep Warrier scalped a wicket each.
R. Ashwin and Baba Indrajith’s efforts goes vain as Lokesh Raj shine with 5-wicket haul
Chasing the winning target, Dindigul Dragons got a flying start R. Ashwin and Shivam Singh (13 off 14) added 43 runs for the first wicket in 4.4 overs. After that, Baba Indrajith joined Ashwin at the crease as the duo put up a partnership of 102 runs for the second wicket. Ashwin got out after scoring 67 runs off 46 balls hitting five fours and three sixes, while Indrajith top scored with 73(43) runs hitting four fours and five sixes.
However, after the partnership was broken, none of the DD batters could stay at the crease for long as TD Lokesh Raj ended up taking five wickets in his spell of just two overs. The right-arm fast bowler registered figures of 5/13 as DD were restricted at 172 runs losing eight wickets. Apart from that, Abhishek Tanwar took two wickets while M Silambarasan put one in his bag.
