Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a dominant 59-run victory against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede stadium on 21st May 2025, securing the last spot into the playoffs. A batting masterclass from Suryakumar Yadav and then a brilliant bowling spell of 3-11 (4) by Mitchell Santner saw MI defend a respectable total of 180 on their home turf
Mitchell Santner delivered a crucial bowling performance for the Mumbai Indians. Introduced into the attack during the middle overs, Santner made an immediate impact by dismissing Vipraj Nigam, who had earlier been given a reprieve due to a dropped catch by Rohit Sharma. Santner's delivery deceived Nigam, leading to a vital breakthrough that helped MI maintain control over the match.
Santner also cleaned up Sameer Rizvi, who seemed to be settling into the rhythm and denied any chances for DC to get a grip of the game. Continuing his effective spell, Santner also claimed the wicket of Ashutosh Sharma, further denting DC's chase. His disciplined bowling not only curtailed the scoring rate but also built pressure that led to additional wickets falling at the other end.

In DC's chase, early breakthroughs by MI's bowlers set the tone. Mitchell Santner was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 11 runs in his 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah supported well with 3 wickets for 11 runs in 3.2 overs. DC's top scorer was Sameer Rizvi with 39 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to build partnerships, leading to their downfall.
