On May 26, 1998, West Indies player Sunil Narine was born in Trinidad & Tobago. He entered the competitive cricket in February 2009, with his debut for Trinidad & Tobago against Leeward in St Augustine. After two-and-a-half years of his diligence in domestic cricket, he got the opportunity to represent the Windies side against India in the One-Day International (ODI) game played in Ahmedabad in December 2011. After making his ODI debut, he broke into T20 Internationals (T20I) and Tests within the next seven months.
In October 2012, West Indies won their maiden T20 World Cup, which was held in Sri Lanka. The right-arm off- spinner played a significant role in the Caribbean side’s triumph as he grabbed nine wickets in seven matches at a thrifty economy of 5.63 and became the leading wicket-taker for his team in the marquee T20 tournament.
Sunil Narine’s IPL career for KKR
In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reserved his services. Playing his debut season, he clinched 24 wickets in 15 matches to help Knight Riders register their first trophy win under Gautam Gambhir’s leadership. After two years, he again showcased his bowling mettle to guide Kolkata to their second title success. This time, he grabbed 21 wickets in 16 games at an economy of 6.35.
KKR bagged their third title in 2024 under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy and Narine made a major contribution with his all-round prowess. In Knight Riders’ successful campaign, he chipped in with 488 runs and 17 wickets in 15 matches. In his 13-year-old IPL career, he has become the player with most IPL contests for Kolkata with 197 outings. Talking about his all-round numbers, he has racked up 208 wickets and 1750 runs.
