The Indian cricket team is currently taking on England in a highly-anticipated five-match Test series in the UK. However, the series currently stands leveled at 1-1 after the hosts claimed the opening Test in Leeds, followed by India coming back strongly and breaching the fortress at Edgbaston with a 336-run win. As of now, they are playing the third Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
While the action so far has been one to remember at the Lord’s, the Men in Blue side are without some of their Test mainstays, including Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. However, the two cricketers have been out of the national setup now for a considerable time, they hope to return in India whites again.
I still want to play Test cricket: Ajinkya Rahane
While Pujara has been part of the commentary panel for the England tour, on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test, stalwart, Ajinkya Rahane was also in attendance. When asked of his future in Indian cricket, Rahane replied, “It’s good to be here. I still want to play Test cricket. I am really passionate about playing Test cricket and at this moment, I am enjoying my cricket. Just here for a few days and I carried my training clothes so that I can keep myself fit. Our domestic season is starting, so the preparation has just begun.”
Speaking in an interaction with Sky Sports Cricket, Rahane continued, “I would love to be back in the Indian set-up again. The desire, the hunger, the fire is still there. Fitness-wise, I am right up there. I just want to take one game at a time, thinking about this IPL right now, and then, let’s see what happens in the future.”
It is to be noted that Rahane last represented India in Test cricket in 2023. However, he hasn’t been part of the limited-overs setup for a decade now, buy despite being a seasoned batter, he hopes to make a return to the longest format.
