
On June 5, 2022, star English batter Joe Root achieved another milestone in his Test career in a match against New Zealand at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground. During his 115-run knock in England’s five-wicket win, Root became 14th batter in history to cross 10000 runs in the longest format in international cricket. He is also the second batter after Alastair Cook to reach the milestone of 10000 Test runs for England.
Joe Root took 218 innings in 118 Test matches to cross 10000 runs in Test cricket. With this, he became the fastest batter from England to achieve the feat. Talking about the match, England registered a convincing five-wicket win over New Zealand to take a 1-0 lead in a three-match Test series. Root was awarded player of the match for his unbeaten 115*(170) runs as England successfully chased the target of 278 runs on day four.

Joe Root has already became a legend in Test cricket and is now England’s leading run-scorer in the red-ball format. He made his Test debut in a match against India in Nagpur on December 13, 2012. It turned out to be a memorable debut for him as he scored 73 runs in the first innings. Since then, Root went on to play 153 Test matches in his career amassing 13006 runs at an average of 50.80 hitting 36 hundreds and 65 half-centuries.
Joe Root is among the greatest Test batters in modern day cricket and is nearing to become all-time leading run scorers in Test cricket surpassing Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. Currently, Root is in the fifth position in the list of leading run scorers in Test behind Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid. However, Root is already the top run scorer in Test among active cricketers.
