A new era is set to begin for the Indian Cricket Team in Tests as they will take on the hosts England for a five-match Test series starting on June 20. Young star batter Shubman Gill has been appointed a new Test captain of India after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement from the longest format. The fans have already started missing Kohli in reds as he will not be seen taking charge on the England tour this time.

However, former Indian cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a controversial statement on Virat Kohli’s absence for the upcoming Test series. Ashwin, who retired from international cricket during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year said that no individual is greater than the game and India will not miss him in the England series.

"I do not think anybody who has played the game, or will play the game, is higher than the game itself. Nobody who walks the park does good for the game - the game does good or bad by them. I love Virat, but he has come, played the game, left the game, left it at a great place. It is for someone else to take it forward,” Ashwin told RevSportz.

Gill is already too overwhelmed by the attention: Ravichandran Ashwin

As India was looking for a new leader in the Test format, the management backed Shubman Gill to take the leadership role for the upcoming Test series in England. This will also be the first time that Gill will lead India in red-ball cricket. Speaking about him, R. Ashwin also opined that the 25-year-old is very overwhelmed with the latest attention he got as Test captain

"I think Gill is already too overwhelmed by the attention and responsibility he has got. If I was in his place with such a high-pressure job, I would want to have a very good start as a batsman," Ashwin said.

"As a batter, he will have his share of questions on his place, as England can be a very tough place to bat. But if he makes runs, runs will give confidence and that would in turn rub on to captaincy," he further added.
