On Saturday, June 21, India’s ‘Golden Boy’, Neeraj Chopra ended his long wait of a win in the Diamond League as he toppled the likes of Julian Weber to clinch the Paris edition of the 2025 season. The two-time Olympic medallist however could not breach the 90m-mark during his attempts at the Paris Diamond League 2025, but upstaged his German rival to secure the first place in a star-studded lineup.

The 27-year-old threw his best of 88.16m in his first attempt despite including five athletes who have time and again breached the 90m-mark. In his second attempt, Neeraj Chopra’s throw measured 85.10m, followed by foul attempts in his next three throws. The final and the sixth effort measured 82.39m.

While Neeraj Chopra secured himself the first place on the podium, Germany’s Julian Weber finished second with throw of 87.88m, which came in the opening round, whereas Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva finished third with a throw of 86.62m. With a win, the Haryana-born ended his long wait of winning a Diamond League event after his last came in June 2023 in Lausanne.

Furthermore, this was Neeraj Chopra’s first win in the Paris leg. His last appearance in the Paris Diamond League came in 2017 as a junior world champion, where he finished fifth with a throw of 84.67m. Speaking after his victory, the 27-year-old said, "I am happy with my throw....My run-up was really fast today. I can't control my speed, but I'm happy with the result and with the first position."

The Indian Olympian will next be seen in action at the Ostrava Golden Spike, which is scheduled to be held on June 24. "I will compete in Ostrava (Golden Spike athletic meet) after four days on the 24th of June. So I need some recovery," Chopra confirmed after his win.
