Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Mitchell Marsh has expressed confidence in his skipper Rishabh Pant, believing the latter will end his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign on a positive note. Pant has scored only 135 runs after his 12 appearances in the marquee T20 competition. LSG captain has been facing stern criticism for his horrendous batting show in the tournament as he is the costliest player in IPL. His batting performance impacted his captaincy as LSG crashed out of the IPL playoffs race following their six-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 19.
However, amidst these tough times, Rishabh Pant received support from his LSG teammate Mitchell Marsh, who believes that his captain is extremely talented and is hopeful that the 27-year-old will be among the runs in the remaining two games. "He'd be the first one to say that he hasn't had the season that he would have liked, but we know that he's a fantastic player, highly skilled and highly talented. So he will be back, hopefully, in the last two games," said Marsh in the post-match conference.
Mitchell Marsh's sensational half-century goes in vain
Mitchell Marsh did a magnificent job as opener for Lucknow against Hyderabad. Taking Sunrisers’ bowling attack to the cleaners, the Australia all-rounder accumulated quick 65 off 39 with 10 boundaries (six fours and four maximums). In this competition, he has looked in fine touch with his bat, notching up 443 runs at a strike rate of 157.09. However, his efforts went in vain as LSG ended up losing the game by six wickets depsite posting 205/7 on board.
LSG’s next contest will be against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium on May 22. With Lucknow having a disheartening campaign in the tournament, Marsh will look to be at his best in the upcoming game to cheer up LSG fans.
