The competition for the ticket to quarter-finals got very intense in the fourth round of Wimbledon 2025. With the fourth round of the tournament now over, the slots have now been occupied in both men’s singles and women's singles categories for the quarterfinals. The former category has names like Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokivoc that have previously won the title, but In the ladies’ singles, history will beckon as a new candidate will be crowned as the champion in this edition. One such name in that list contesting for the title is Mirra Andreeva.
In her fourth round match, 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva became the youngest player to qualify for the quarter-finals of the women’s singles on her debut appearance. The seventh-seeded Russian powered her way with a 6-2, 6-3 win over America’s 10th seeded Emma Navarro on Monday, July 7. With the win, Andreeva became the youngest player since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007 to reach the women's quarterfinals at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. Maria Sharapova at 17 was the last teenage player (men's or women's) to win the Wimbledon title.
“Honestly, I just kept telling myself that I’m facing break points. I tried to tell myself that I’m not the one who is up on the score, I’m the one who is down," Andreeva revealed during the on-court interview. “In the end I completely forgot the score. I’m happy that I did it because I think that I would be three times more nervous on the match point,” she further added. In her quarter-final match, Andreeva will face Belinda Bencic, who will also be playing her first Wimbledon quarter-final on Wednesday, July 9.
Women’s singles to get a new champion at Wimbledon 2025
The 10th seeded Emma Navarro defeated the defending champion, Barbora Krejcikova from Czech Republic in the previous round, ensuring a first-time champion in this edition of Grand Slam tournament. It will be the ninth different women’s champion in the past nine years of Wimbledon.
With Navarro’s defeat, 13th seed Amanda Anismova is the only American woman in the singles draw, and she’ll play Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Tuesday, July 8 for a spot in the semi-finals. In the other games of the ladies’ singles, Iga Swiatek will face Liudmila Samsonova and Aryna Sabalenka will face Laura Siegemund to book their places in the semi-finals.
