Current Premier League (PL) champions Liverpool have acquired Germany’s Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer-record deal of £116 million ($156.27 million). The deal also consists of a clause which includes an initial £100 million payment with £16 million in add-ons. The club made the announcement on June 20. The 22-year-old has got a five-year contract and his shirt number will be announced later this summer. With this deal, Wirtz has become the second signing of this summer. Earlier, Florian’s former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong also became a part of the distinguished English club.
After bagging the lucrative contract from Liverpool, Florian released a statement and said, "I am really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League. I will see how I can perform there. I hope I can do my best. I spoke also with some players who played there and they told me that it's perfect for me and every pitch is perfect, you can enjoy every game. I'm really looking forward to playing my first game.”
Florian Wirtz’s overall record for Bayer Leverkusen
Serving Leverkusen from 2020 to 2025, Florian Wirtz has notched up 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 games. In 2024, when Leverkusen registered their maiden title win in Bundesliga, he chipped in with 18 goals and 20 assists. His sensational performance also made him Bundesliga Player of the Season.
In the next season, he continued his brilliant form and went on to record 16 goals and 15 assists. This time, Leverkusen concluded their campaign as runners-up but qualified for the Champions League last 16. After spending five years in Leverkusen, Wirtz will look to have a great stint with Liverpool. He is expected to join the English club in the pre-season training, scheduled to begin in July.
