England wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler recently opened up on how India’s Virat Kohli helped him with his advice while he was struggling with the form in IPL 2023. While playing for Rajasthan Royals, Buttler had a memorable season in 2022 where he amassed 863 runs hitting four centuries and helped his team to get into the final. However, the wicketkeeper couldn’t repeat the same kind of heroics in the following edition and was struggling with the bat.
In his latest podcast with former England pacer Stuart Broad ‘For the Love of Cricket’ channel of YouTube, Jos Buttler revealed how he went to Virat Kohli during his bad phase and ‘insecurities’ in IPL 2023 and how the star Indian batter helped him to cope up with this.
“He’s (Virat) a huge competitor, but I just thought that I’ll ask him a couple of questions. He had just finished batting. The question was about how you manage expectations. I mean, there are more expectations on him than anyone in world cricket. He was so generous with his time, so helpful. He just had to say ‘Maybe you had that one season. Accept that. Don’t try and replicate it’. It’s ok. Life is going to be fine," Buttler said.
Virat is arguably the best player of our generation: Jos Buttler
Speaking further, Jos Buttler revealed that Virat Kohli also shared to him how he sometimes had insecurities about his game and how proceeded to cope up with it. Former English skipper also expressed his gratitude to Kohli for sharing his insight that helped him improve his game.
“And then he started talking about some of the insecurities he sometimes has about his game and stuff like that. How he practices. I mean, this is arguably the best player of our generation, especially in white-ball and ODIs. I was so thankful for his time and grateful for his insights. Just amazed by the knowledge he had of my own game, what my work. He too is human. He said ‘sometimes I pick up the bat and feel like I don’t know how to play.’ I feel that quite a lot so if he feels that too, it’s ok," Buttler added.
