Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies later this month due to a right thumb injury, getting replaced by Luke Wood. The 30-year-old suffered the injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata earlier this month, following which he left the RR setup when the league got suspended temporarily for a week.

Notably, during his IPL 2025 campaign, Jofra Archer made 12 appearances for RR, taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 9.47 at an average of 39.18. While the stats aren’t the best for the English speedster, he was exceptional for RR in some of the matches, fulfilling the role of bowling the tough overs at the start and the death with decent consistency in the league.

Jofra Archer will be reassessed by the England medical team over the next fortnight: ECB

Apart from missing out on England’s upcoming ODI series against West Indies due to injury, Jofra Archer wasn’t named in the squad for the T20I series, which will be played shortly after the completion of the 50-over matches. The first ODI of the series will be played on May 29 at Edgbaston, while the second and third match of the series are set to go down on June 1 at Sophia Gardens and June 3 at The Oval.

The press release from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about Jofra Archer’s injury read, “He will be reassessed by the England medical team over the next fortnight to determine when he may return to action.” His replacement Luke Wood has played two ODIs for England after making his debut in November 2022, with his last appearance in the format coming in September 2023.
