Former England pacer James Anderson has expressed his views on naming the England-India Test series after legendary Sachin Tendulkar and him. Both Tendulkar and Anderson are eminent figures in world cricket. During their playing days, they faced each other in red-ball cricket several times. On nine occasions, the speedster got the better of Tendulkar in the longest format of the game while the Master Blaster notched up 208 runs with 34 fours against the former English cricketer. Sachin retired from Test cricket in 2013 while Anderson concluded his illustrious international career in July 2024.

Anderson recently appeared in a conversation with ESPNcricinfo and said he is proud of the new name of the England-India series as he feels it’s a great honour to share his name with Sachin, who he looked upto when he was growing up. "I still can't quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up, though I don't want to do him a disservice with his age. I remember watching him, an absolute legend of the game, and I played against him a lot as well. So, to have this trophy is a huge honour for me, and I couldn't be more proud."

James Anderson’s sensational performance in India - England Tests

Anderson’s record is sensational in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. From 2007 to 2022, he played 22 matches against Team India on English soil and picked up 105 wickets in 44 innings, with the best figures of 5/20. With these numbers he is the highest wicket-taker in the series.

Talking about Tendulkar’s numbers, he played seven games and racked up 501 runs in 14 innings. England haven’t lost the trophy after recording defeat in the first edition played in 2007. Under Ben Stokes’ captaincy, the English side will look to contain Team India again.
