England Test skipper Ben Stokes reacted on Virat Kohli retirement from Test cricket and also revealed that he texted the 36-year-old as soon as he got the news of his decision to call off his red-ball. Notably, India are scheduled to tour England for a five-match Test series starting on June 20. Stokes, who will lead the English side revealed that he told Kohli that it would ‘a shame’ to not play against him in the upcoming series.
Notably, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket via Instagram post on the morning of May 12. "What India will miss is his (Kohli's) fighting spirit on the field, his competitiveness, his desire to win. He's made No. 18 his own - we might never see it on the back of another Indian shirt. He's been pure class for such a long time. I texted him saying it's going to be a shame not playing against him this time. I love playing against Virat. We've always relished the contest because we share the same mindset on the field - it's a battle," Ben Stoke was quoted as saying by India Today.

Speaking further, Ben Stokes also hailed Virat Kohli for his incredible Test career and also mentioned about his famous cover drive. Stokes also believes that Kohli has done well in England and said that he deserves for the honour for his contribution to the game.
"He's been incredible. He deserves all the accolades. No doubt, there's been plenty of praise for him in India and here as well. He's done well in England too,” Ben Stokes said.
"In white-ball formats, he's been outstanding. One thing I'll always remember about Virat is how hard he hits the ball through the covers - that cover drive will live long in the memory," he further added.
