India T20 International (T20I) captain Suryakumar Yadav has flown to London to receive treatment for a sports hernia injury. The right-handed batter was seen leading Triumph Knights Mumbai Northeast (TKMNE) in the Mumbai T20 League 2025. In the competition, he scored 122 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 158.44. Before the city-based tournament, he was seen in excellent touch with his bat for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 34-year-old notched up 717 runs with five fifties in 16 matches and ended up as the second-leading run-getter in the T20 extravaganza.
Earlier, in January, he was diagnosed with the injury but delayed his treatment to deliver his services to Team India for the five-match T20I series against England at home and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Following Surya’s departure to London, a source close to the star player spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity and revealed, “Surya is suffering from Sports hernia on right side lower abdomen. He has gone to the UK for consultation. If required, he will be going under the knife.”
India to play next T20I series in August
With India all set to face England in the upcoming five-match Test series in the latter’s backyard from June 20 to August 4, it’s the best time for Suryakumar to receive treatment for his injury. The Men in Blue will play their next T20I competition in Bangladesh from August 26 to 31.
Suryakumar, as a skipper, will look to lead from the front and help India gear up for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March 2026. India will be defending the title under Suryakumar’s leadership. Before the marquee International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament next year, India will play 18 T20I games.
After the Bangladesh series, India will be seen in action in the five-match T20I series to be played in Australia in November while in December 2025 and January 2026, the 2024 T20 champions will host South Africa and New Zealand respectively.
