Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has come up with his reaction over his former team Paris Saint-Germain's winning the UEFA Champions League (UCL) for the first-time. The Frenchman said he is happy to see his former team winning and is not bitter about the team. This statement from the French footballer comes less than a year after leaving the club. PSG successfully beat Inter Milan by 5-0 last weekend and won Europe's premier club competition. Previous to this, the team lost to Bayern Munich in 2020 when he was playing for them. With that, Mbappe, during his tenure with PSG, failed to win the Champions League before joining Real Madrid last summer.
"I was happy, they deserved it, they've been through so many problems, I've been through that too. I've been through every stage of the Champions League except winning it," Mbappé told reporters. "They were the best team in Europe. I can't remember ever seeing them go up 5-0. It's 100% deserved, they're becoming the team everyone wants to beat," he further added. Mbappé departed PSG on a free transfer last year as the club's all-time leading scorer, but the 26-year-old later filed a lawsuit against his former team seeking €55 million ($62.67 million) in unpaid wages.
Kylian Mbappe’s record breaking stint with PSG before leaving for Real Madrid
Mbappe was signed by PSG when he was 18. During his time at PSG, Mbappé scored 256 goals and provided 95 assists. Of those, 175 goals came in Ligue 1, while he scored 42 times in the Champions League for the Parisian side. In his final campaign (2023–24), he recorded 44 goals and 10 assists across 48 appearances in all competitions.
However, for Real Madrid, Mbappe scored 43 goals in all matches in his first season, but failed to garner a trophy. Also, the club got knocked out of the Champions League while playing against Arsenal in the quarter-finals. Commenting on his previous team's UCL win, he said, "PSG won the Champions League without me, that doesn't affect me. That's a good thing. I think we all face challenges in our careers. I'm a bit more in the eye of the storm, which is good. I've always liked being in these positions, it's up to me to work. I've reversed quite a few trends in my career; I've had a lot of things stuck on my back, and I've managed to get them off."
