England cricket team has been handed a massive blow ahead of the West Indies series as they will miss the services of pacer Gus Atkinson. The English pacer, has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against West Indies following a hamstring injury, which he sustained in one-off Test against Zimbabwe.

The development was confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday, May 27. With this, he joins Jofra Archer, who is also set to miss the series after sustaining a thumb injury. Meanwhile, Atkinson will begin his rehabilitation programme under the supervisions of the medical team.

"He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation under the supervision of the England medical team. No replacement will be added to the ODI squad," ECB said in a statement. Meanwhile, they also added that the side will not name his replacement. However, the ECB did not confirm his date of return, but as per several reports, he is set to get fit in time for the highly-anticipated Test series against India.

Speaking of the series, England will lock horns with West Indies in three-match ODI series, followed by as many T20Is. While the first ODI will be played at Edgbaston on May 29, followed by a game each at Sophia Garden, Cardiff and kennington Oval, London, the T20I series is set to commence from June 6, with the final T20I set to be played on June 10.
