Everton have made a biggest purchase under their manager David Moyes, who has been part of the camp since January 2025. They have splurged £27 million to reserve the services of France’s striker Thierno Barry, who was associated with La Liga’s Villarreal until the end of the 2024-25 season. Everton have stitched a four-year contract with Barry. With this deal, the Frenchman has become Everton’s second signing of this summer. Earlier, Everton roped in Argentina’s Charly Alcaraz after paying £13 million. Barry will supersede Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left the club on a free transfer.

With the end of Armando Broja’s loan stint, Everton had lost two strikers since the end of 2024 season. Everton are striving to fill those spots and Thierno will be expected to do his job efficiently. In the 2024-25 season, he scored 11 goals in La Liga to help Villarreal qualify for the Champions League 2025-26. He was also a crucial member of France’s Under-21 side who reached the semi-finals of the summer’s European Championships.

Barry, who has also been a forward, has said he wants to follow the footsteps of Everton forwards such as Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. "Everton is a big club in the Premier League. They have a good history and good players have played here, like Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. When I was young I liked to watch these players, now I want to do like these players who have gone before," said Barry.
