KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant turned out to be key performers with their respective hundreds for India on day four of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. India were bowled out for 364 runs in the second innings giving England a target of 371 runs to win and take a lead of 1-0 in a five-match Test. In reply, England have scored 21 runs with no loss of wickets by the end of day four. 

Talking about the match, after India posted 471 runs in the first innings, England fell short of just six runs from the total as they were bowled out for 465 runs. Taking a lead of six runs, India also couldn’t get much support from the top order as the visitors were reduced to 92/3 during the first session of day four. After that, KL Rahul took charge of the innings with Rishabh Pant joining him at the crease.

Taking the innings further after the loss of the third wicket, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant went on to put up a partnership 195 runs for the fourth wicket taking India to a stronger position. Pant got out after scoring 118(140) runs with 15 fours and three sixes, while Rahul top scored with 137 runs off 147 balls hitting 18 boundaries. Sai Sudharsan also scored 30(48) runs while Karun Nair and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with 20(54) and 25*(40) respectively.

However, none of the other batters could stay at the crease for long as India again suffered a lower-order collapse in the second innings and lost their last six wickets for just 31 runs. In reply, England didn't let any of their wicket fall for the remaining day while chasing 371 runs. The hosts now needs 350 runs to win on the final day of the Test match.
