On Friday, December 27, Cricket Australia (CA) released Tasmania batter Beau Webster from the squad amid the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) fourth Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. The decision from CA came after the right-handed batter wasn't named in the Playing XI for the fourth Test in Melbourne.

Earlier, Cricket Australia added Sam Konstas, Sean Abbott and Beau Webster in the Australian Test squad for the final two Tests of the five-match BGT 2024-25. While Konstas replaced Nathan McSweeney, who had a mixed outing in the series, the other additions came after Josh Hazlewood was ruled out with an injury.
