Mumbai Indians (MI) fans were expecting their team to play extraordinarily under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and lift the trophy for the sixth time. After losing four of their first five games, they went on to win six games in a row and made a strong comeback to deliver cheerful moments to their team’s supporters. However, in the final stage of the league round, their confidence got shaken after losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

In the playoffs game, they lost to PBKS in Qualifier 2, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium and concluded their campaign on a disappointing note. Noting their unsuccessful season, Mumbai will now gear up to extract the best performance from their players next year. The MI team management will also look to get rid of their non-performing and unutilised players of IPL 2025 to solidify the team combination for the next edition.

Discussing more, SportsTiger has come up with four names who MI might release prior to IPL 2026:

4. Robin Minz

Mumbai Indians (MI) reserved the services of Robin Minz for just INR 65 Lakh in the IPL 2025 auction. The wicket-keeper batter got the opportunity in two matches but couldn’t deliver anything special from his bat. Appearing against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) in MI’s initial games, he could score only six runs.

3. Reece Topley

MI didn’t utilise England pacer Reece Topley’s service in the most part of the T20 extravaganza. Throughout the competition, he played only one match and in that too, he bowled an expensive spell. In Qualifier 2, the team trusted him to bolster the fast-bowling unit but the 31-year-old put up a miserable show, registering 0/40 figures in his three overs.

2. Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was added into MI’s squad as a replacement for his compatriot Allah Ghazanfar. He was expected to form a formidable spin-bowling duo with Mitchell Santner but he couldn’t grab the opportunity he got against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. In the crucial contest, Rahman splurged 28 runs in his two-over spell. Following this game, MI didn’t induct him in their playing XI.

1. Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar’s role was to reinforce MI’s pace attack with illustrious names Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. However, his numbers reveal that he failed to do his job efficiently. In his 14 outings, the speedster could scalp only 11 wickets at a horrendous economy of 9.17.
