India suffered a heartbreaking defeat on day five of the third Test against England at Lords on July 14. Chasing a target of 193 runs, the Indian batting order completely collapsed as the visitors were bowled out for 170 runs losing the game by 22 runs. Ravindra Jadeja played a fighting knock of 61*(181) runs but couldn’t take his team down the line despite all the efforts. After this loss, India are now trailing by 1-2 in a five-match Test series against England and need to win both the remaining matches to clinch the series.

Apart from that, there are also questions whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the fourth Test in Greater Manchester. There have been lots of talks regarding Bumrah’s workload management. The fast bowler played two out of three matches in the series to manage his workload. However, former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan said that India could have used his services better as he was given enough rest between the first and the third Test.

“Ben Stokes bowled a marathon 9.2 over spell in the morning on day five. What a player he is. He bowls, bats and executes a crucial run out of Rishabh Pant but there is no talk of workload management. But with India it is not like that,” Pathan said on his YouTube channel.

Bumrah’s workload was managed having not played at Edgbaston: Irfan Pathan

Speaking further, Irfan Pathan opined that Jasprit Bumrah’s workload was managed well after the Indian team management rested him during the second Test in Birmingham. The former cricketer believes that India couldn’t use Bumrah in a better way which was disappointing.

“Bumrah bowls five overs and waits for Joe Root to come out to bat when you need to control the game (in the second innings). It was disappointing. His workload was managed having not played at Edgbaston. When you play a match, there is no workload. You have to win at all costs. The Indian camp could have done that better," the 2007 T20 World Cup winner said.
