In the ongoing second Test getting played between England and Team India at Edgbaston, the latter’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has done a remarkable job with his bat, thus far. The 23-year-old was under fierce criticism for his miserable fielding in the first Test at Headingley. In the opening game, he notched up a magnificent ton but also dropped multiple catches in the second innings of the contest. His underwhelming fielding performance cost India as his errors impacted the visitors negatively eventually. However, forgetting his previous failures Jaiswal came to bat in the second match and notched up his 11th Test half-century. The left-hander got out after scoring 87 runs off 113 balls hitting seven boundaries.
Noting his brilliant batting show in the match, netizen showered praise on him but also remembered his previous match’s fielding performance. An X user named Ravikant wrote, “Maturity shown by Yashasvi Jaiswal early in his career. Has been a top quality performer,” while another one named Sarcasm penned, “Yashasvi Jaiswal please fielding me bhi yahi kamal karna. #INDvENG.”
India lose two wickets until lunch
Until lunch, India accumulated 98 runs on the board with a loss of two wickets. KL Rahul failed to be effective as veteran Chris Woakes cleaned him up and concluded the 33-year-old’s innings at his score of two only. Karun Nair, who was promoted in the batting order, looked fine with his bat but Brydon Carse surprised him with a bouncer and sent him back to the pavilion at his score of 31 off 50. Nair’s innings was studded with five fours.
After losing two wickets, expectations will be high from Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill. Both will have to stitch a solid stand on the batting-friendly turf to help India post a colossal total on the board. India are playing without their mainstay pacer Jasprit Bumrah and they will have to be wary of England’s batting unit, who looked stunning in the opening game and chased down the mammoth target of 371 easily in the first Test.
