Just a day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a historic IPL win on June 3, a tragic incident took place in Bengaluru while people were celebrating the franchise's first title win in 18 years. As RCB announced victory celebration at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, lakhs of fans gathered outside the venue which led to a stampede with around 11 people including kids losing their lives and over 50 people getting injured.
What could have been an iconic celebration turned into a tragedy which has increased the safety concerns outside one of the most famous cricket grounds in India. After the incident, the Karnataka government and the RCB management have been facing a huge backlash from the fans for not organising the event properly and putting several lives at risk. Although the statement has announced INR 25 Lakhs compensations for the families of the victims, but they also have to assure that no such incident takes place in the future.
What did Karnataka CM say?
After the tragic stampede incident in Bengaluru after RCB’s IPL 2025 triumph, there also have been concerns over the location of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The roads surrounding the stadium are very narrow which struggles to handle a large group of fans outside the venue. During the IPL matches as well, the road almost gets blocked outside the stadium with a huge amount of fans. Reacting to this, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is said that the government is considering to change the location of the stadium.
“The government will look into shifting the cricket stadium to another location,” Siddaramaiah was quoted as saying by ANI. “Such an unpleasant incident should not happen under any government. Personally, this incident has hurt me and the government. Five police officers have been suspended in this case. The intelligence chief and the chief minister’s political secretary have been replaced," he further added.
However, it won’t be an easy task to change to location of an international stadium all of a sudden. It is needed to be proceeded with a proper planning land allocations coordination with the BCCI and other stakeholders.
