When Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) organised their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory celebration in Bengaluru, their fans wouldn’t have thought that the moment would become the darkest chapter of the franchise instead of a cheerful one. On June 4, 11 people lost their lives and several got injured after the stampede occurred due to insufficient security arrangements during Challengers’ triumph celebration. Following the terrible day, RCB and the Karnataka Government are facing anger from the public for allowing such a big event without proper planning.

In a recent development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia spoke with Cricbuzz and revealed his opinion on the matter. He said that it was RCB’s private affair but the board can’t don the role of an onlooker as its responsibility is to handle cricket affairs. He also added that BCCI will have to take stern measures so that these kinds of incidents do not happen again in the future. "At some stage, BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be a silent spectator. It was a private affair of RCB but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future,” said Saikia.

Several stars mourned 11 deaths in Bengaluru

After the Bengaluru incident, several renowned figures such as India head coach Gautam Gambhir, former India skipper Kapil Dev, RCB’s WPL side’s captain Smriti Mandhana, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar expressed misery at the death of 11 people.

Earlier, Devajit Saikia also gave a statement on the tragic incident. He had emphasised that the organisers of the event should’ve planned it in a better way. "This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for their cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better," said Saikia on June 5.
