Punjab Kings have entered the final of IPL after 11 years as they defeated Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the second qualifier of IPL 2025 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 1. Skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with his unbeaten 87*(41) runs as PBKS pulled off a 204-run chase with one over to go. However, despite winning the game, Iyer wasn’t looking happy as he was seen lashing out on Shashank Singh during the post-match handshake.Notably, as PBKS were chasing a target of 204 runs, they lost a big wicket of Nehal Wadhera (48 off 29) at a score 156 in 15.4 overs as he got out after an 84-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer.

After that, Shashank Singh came to bat and was expected to finish the game with the skipper. However, during the 17th over, when Shashank drove a low full toss by Trent Boult for a single, he didn’t realise that he was in trouble as MI skipper Hardik Pandya took no time in collecting the ball inside the 30-yard circle and throwing towards the non-striker’s end. Eventually, it turned out to be a direct hit and Shashank found himself way outside the crease when the ball hit the stumps. After his dismissal, Iyer was seen furious at him for not speeding up to reach the crease on time.

Although, Shashank Singh could only add two runs to the score, it didn’t make much difference in the result as Shreyas Iyer took charge of the innings and ended up finishing the game for PBKS with one over to go. However, when players from the both teams were shaking hands after the match, Iyer was still unhappy with Shashank and was seen losing cool during the handshake and refused to shake hands with him.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer was awarded player of the match for his match-winnning knock that assured second IPL final for PBKS after 11 years. Now, PBKS are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the title clash in Ahmedabad on June 3. This also means that one of the two teams who haven’t been able to win a trophy in the 17 years of IPL, will finally break the curse this time and will finally end winning their first title after 18 years.
