Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Luis Enrique was seen losing his temper after his team’s defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, played at the MetLife Stadium on July 13, 2025. Chelsea scripted history by this victory as they lifted their second trophy within five years. In the game, the 23-year-old Cole Palmer did a magnificent job as he scored two goals for the English club in the first half to help his side gain momentum. In the 43rd minute, Joao Pedro also displayed his excellence and notched up a goal to take the match away from PSG. Chelsea eventually recorded a 3-0 victory and became the champions.
Following the game, it was witnessed that players from both teams got involved in a physical altercation by pushing one another. However, the notable scene happened when Joao Pedro and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma confronted each other and Enrique intervened and slapped the Brazilian to the ground. The shove happened among one another until the skirmish completely got controlled.
Luis Enrique feels scuffle could’ve been avoided
Following the game, when Enrique was asked about the incident to the media, he said that his objective was to stop the matter from getting worse. "This was completely avoidable at the end. My goal and my objective is always trying to separate the footballers to avoid greater problems,” said the PSG coach via translation.
He also highlighted the intensity of the match and the matter to learn a lesson to avoid this kind of incident in the future. “There's a lot of tension, a lot of pressure, and there was a whole bunch of pushing that was going on by many people. I think that we should all avoid doing so, and it should not happen again,” added Enrique.
