In the second Test between England and Team India getting played at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the former’s middle-order batter Harry Brook displayed composure and racked up his ninth red-ball century. After the departure of Joe Root and captain Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, allying with Jamie Smith, took India’s bowling attack to the cleaners and removed pressure from his side. In the first session, Smith completed his second Test century in 80 balls while Brook, who got close to hitting a ton against India in the first Test in Leeds, brought his hundred this time in the second session of the game.
On the last delivery of Prasidh Krishna’s 10th over, Brook collected a boundary from the back side and brought his century in 137 balls. Brook’s innings came at the time when England were under immense pressure after losing half of their batters at a score of 84 only. In the crunch situation, Brook stepped up and built a solid partnership with Jamie to bring England back in the match.

India require a crucial breakthrough in second Test at Edgbaston
India have to break the ongoing stand to snatch the momentum from England on day three of the second Test. The home side have risen tremendously, riding on the partnership between both youngsters. Taking advantage of batting turf, both have added 206 runs together thus far in the match. Jamie looked relentless against bowlers after completing his hundred.
As of writing, England are 297/5 in 58 overs, with Brook (unbeaten 109 off 153) and Smith (unbeaten 132 off 122) at the crease. Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar have struggled to contain both batters thus far as both were pillaged mercilessly. Except for Mohammed Siraj, no bowler have looked comfortable on the third of the contest. From this situation, England will strive to the danger of follow-on which looked inevitable in the first hour of the day.
