In the crunch situation, both batters held their nerves and launched an onslaught on the visitors’ bowlers. When it came to taking advantage of the batting turf, Jamie Smith left Brook behind as he scored quick runs which took the pressure off England. Harry Brook, who scored his maiden Test ton against India, got dismissed after scoring 158. His phenomenal knock was studded with 18 boundaries (17 fours and a maximum). Akash Deep cleaned him up and delivered the much-needed breakthrough to Team India. After Brook’s departure, India will look to fold England’s innings as soon as possible to gain a fine lead after the first innings.
Chris Woakes has joined Jamie in the middle and as of writing, England are 395/6 in 85 overs.
