England have made a sensational comeback against Team India in the Edgbaston Test. After losing five batters at a score of 84, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith built a 303-run partnership for the sixth wicket. In the crunch situation, both batters held their nerves and launched an onslaught on the visitors’ bowlers. When it came to taking advantage of the batting turf, Jamie Smith left Brook behind as he scored quick runs which took the pressure off England. Jamie struck his second Test century while Brook went on to notch up his ninth red-ball ton.

This stand has become England’s second-most successful sixth-wicket Test partnership. When both English batters were creating history, netizen were showering praise for their efforts on social media. An X user named Faiz Fazel wrote, “Hundreds of Harry Brook and Jamie Smith have given a recovery path to England. Despite losing wickets, they kept playing on the Bazball formula, an amazing game at Edgbaston. #ENGvsIND #INDvsENG.”

Below are some of the fan reactions on X for the 300+ partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith:

Harry Brook’s remarkable knock ended at his score of 158

Harry Brook, who scored his maiden Test ton against India, got dismissed after scoring 158. His phenomenal knock was studded with 18 boundaries (17 fours and a maximum). Akash Deep cleaned him up and delivered the much-needed breakthrough to Team India. After Brook’s departure, India will look to fold England’s innings as soon as possible to gain a fine lead after the first innings.

Chris Woakes has joined Jamie in the middle and as of writing, England are 395/6 in 85 overs. Smith is batting at an unbeaten 172 off 192 while Woakes has accumulated unbeaten five runs after playing 12 balls. Woakes has the potential to trouble bowlers as he has scored his only Test ton against India in 2018.
