Rishabh Pant's disappointing IPL 2025 campaign hit another low during match 61 between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The LSG captain, who has struggled to find form throughout the season, was dismissed cheaply for just 7 runs off 6 balls. Facing Eshan Malinga in the 12th over, Pant attempted to punch a slower delivery that held in the pitch. The mistimed shot looped gently back to the bowler, who completed a sharp return catch to send Pant back to the pavilion.
The dismissal triggered strong reactions both on and off the field. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen leaving his seat in visible frustration, signalling the growing pressure on the underperforming captain. Pant’s inconsistency has not only impacted LSG’s middle order but has also become a major talking point among fans and analysts. As LSG eye a playoff spot, their hopes rest heavily on a swift revival of their skipper’s form.
Mitch Marsh and Aiden Markram provide solid start to LSG with 115-run first wicket partnership
Despite the setback, LSG have posted a competitive total so far in the first innings. At the 15-over mark, they were 146/2, thanks to a solid opening partnership and composed batting from the top order. Mitchell Marsh laid a strong foundation with a 65-run knock, attacking the SRH bowlers early in the innings. Aiden Markram continued the momentum with a measured half-century, anchoring the innings and rotating the strike effectively.
Nicholas Pooran joined Markram after Pant’s dismissal and has added quick runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. SRH’s bowlers, especially Eshan Malinga and Harsh Dubey, have had moments of success but struggled to consistently contain the LSG batters on a placid Lucknow surface. With five overs remaining in the innings, LSG will aim to push their total beyond 200, giving their bowlers a strong platform to defend as they look to stay in the hunt for a playoff berth.
