On the fourth of July edition of WWE SmackDown from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Drew McIntyre made his return to WWE, to break up an emotional segment between best friends Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. After running his mouth against two of the biggest superstars in the WWE today, McIntyre got taken out by Randy Orton with an RKO for his troubles before he got himself a match against him at Saturday Night’s Main Event next week.

The segment had begun with Randy Orton telling Cody Rhodes to not squander his opportunity to dethrone the WWE Champion, John Cena, at SummerSlam next month, they were interrupted by a returning Drew McIntrye with a microphone in his hand. The Scottish Psychopath immediately pointed out to Orton and Rhodes about how the beta energy took over WWE while he was gone, but now, the alpha is back.

Drew McIntyre will take on Randy Orton at Saturday Night's Main Event next week

After getting inside the ring, Drew McIntyre got into the face of Cody Rhodes, wanting him to win at SummerSlam against John Cena, to reclaim the WWE Championship. McIntyre then told Rhodes that he wants to fight him for the title, a match 20 years in the making after both these superstars had parallel careers in different destinations before becoming big in the WWE.

Drew McIntyre categorically said to Cody Rhodes that once the American Nightmare wins the WWE Championship, he will be the one to rip it off of his hands before taking a dig at Randy Orton while turning his attention to him. Seconds later, Orton struck with a picture perfect RKO out of nowhere, to drop McIntyre head first into the mat before soaking in the moment inside the ring.

Following the conclusion of a heated segment, Drew McIntyre was seen backstage, confronting SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, wanting a match with Randy Orton, but got informed that the Viper had left the building. Instead, Aldis informed McIntyre that he can have Orton next week, at the Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will be held at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on July 12.
