In the second Test between England and Team India at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, the visitors are in the dominating position. After the sensational batting show in the second innings, when India came out to the field to defend a humongous total of 608 runs, Mohammed Siraj got rid of opener Zak Crawley early. Bowling his first over, Siraj got Crawley caught at the hands of substitute Sai Sudharsan, deployed at the backward point. After Crawley’s fall, Ben Duckett failed to counter the Akash Deep challenge and got bowled by the pacer. Duckett departed after scoring a quick 25 off 15.
With the early fall of both openers, the responsibility was on experienced Joe Root to stand at the crease and stitch a fine partnership with Ollie Pope. Root, who has a stunning record at this stadium, failed to be impactful with his bat in the first innings as he could score only 22 runs. In the second innings, Akash Deep bagged his wicket as the speedster cleaned him up with a peach of a delivery which beat him all ends up on the outside, holding its line off the pitch. The veteran could score only six after consuming 16 balls.

India performed excellently on the fourth day of the second Test. While batting, their captain Shubman Gill again hammered bowlers and scored his eighth Test ton. In the second innings, the 25-year-old racked up 161 off just 162 with the help of 21 boundaries (13 fours and eight maximums), to become only the second Indian after Sunil Gavaskar to score a double century and a century in the same Test match.
Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja also played their roles brilliantly and scored 65 and 69 respectively. Riding on these performances, India declared their innings at a score of 427/6 in the second innings. After the conclusion of the fourth day, England are 72/3 in 16 overs. On the last day of the contest, the hosts require 536 runs to win to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
