Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday, June 20 confirmed former Test captain, Tim Paine as the head coach of the A team. The former wicketkeeper-batter will be stepping into the new role as Australia A take on Sri Lanka A in Darwin from July 4. Paine, who played for the Aussies from 2009 to 2021, will continue to coach the women’s team at selected times despite being tied in the new role.

With a new role, the former wicketkeeper-batter will be joining pace bowling coach Adam Griffin, Australian women’s team assistant coach Scott Prestwidge and Northern Territory cricket’s Pathway and development coach Trent Keep in the Australia A’s side.

Paine, who previously worked as an assistant coach with Australia, confirmed on this update. Speaking to SEN Radio, the former Aussie cricketer said, "It's time to spread my wings. I've been working with Australia A as an assistant coach, and the opportunity has come up for me to be the head coach. I feel like it's a hard balancing act to pursue a coaching career and talk in the media.”

"The Australia 'A' programme is very exciting, there's a lot of young talent to work with. It's something I really enjoy doing. I'm very lucky and I'm really looking forward to the next part of my journey," he further added.
