In the 16th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025, Madurai Panthers (MP) pacer Surya Anand displayed his bowling mettle and registered a four-wicket haul. Defending 168 runs on the board, Madurai were heading towards the defeat as Nellai were required to score only 11 off nine to win the contest. With Madurai heading towards their third defeat in the competition, their speedster Surya stepped up at the moment and got the better of Sonu Yadav on the first delivery of his last over. Sonu was in excellent touch with his bat and he could’ve guided Nellai to a convincing win however, the right-handed batter couldn’t hold his nerves and got cleaned up by Anand. Sonu departed after scoring 32 off 20.
After Yadav’s dismissal, Valliappan Yudheeswaran also got bowled out against Anand. Emboldened by clinching the couple of wickets, Anand also got Sachin Rathi caught at the hands of the wicket-keeper Ganesh S. With three wickets, Panthers turned the tables and saw themselves on the brink of victory. Anand required only one wicket to bag a hat-trick and guide his team to the triumph. The speedster again showcased his brilliance and cleaned up B Cherian through a yorker. With Cherian’s scalp, Panthers won their second match of the tournament by 10 runs.

Surya’s sensational bowling also made him the recipient of the Player of the Match (POTM) award. He ended his spell with 4/24 figures in 3.5 overs. Following this win, Panthers are now in the sixth spot on the points table. Nellai, who tasted their second loss in the competition, are in the fourth spot on the tally with four points gained through two wins.
Anand is currently the highest wicket-taker for Madurai in the tournament, grabbing five wickets in four games at an economy of 9.88. Madurai will next take on IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at the India Cement Company Ground on June 22.
