Rishabh Pant scripted history in the ongoing first Test between England and India at Headingley. The southpaw notched up a century in the second innings of the game and became the only India player to rack up a couple of tons in a Test match in English condition. Besides that, he also became the only Indian stumper to score a pair of centuries in a Test game. In the second innings, when he completed his century, he was requested to do a backflip from Sunil Gavaskar, who recorded his presence at the stands. In the first innings, he did a backflip celebration after scoring his seventh red-ball century.
However, this time, Pant didn’t do that despite the former India opener’s request. He alluded to Gavaskar that he will do it next time. Instead of that, he did a finger-eye celebration. With Pant’s latest celebration style gaining a lot of attention, it’s time to know why he did it after scoring his eighth century. With the finger-eye celebration, Pant indicated that the he has saved the backflip celebration for later.
Finger-eye celebration by sports personalities
The finger-eye celebration was started by England footballer Dele Alli. He does it after notching up goals. The move got popularised by him in August 2018 during the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United at St. James' Park. It later went to be called the Dele Alli Challenge.
Talking about India’s condition in the match, they got all out after scoring 364 runs in the second innings. England are required to notch up 371 to win the first Test. The visitors will expect their fast-bowling spearhead to be at his best in the remainder of the match. Bumrah will also want his other colleagues to assist him in folding the hosts as soon as possible.
