Young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal turned out to be a star performer for the visitors on day one of the 2nd Test of a five-match series against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The left-handed scored 87(113) runs as India had a decent outing with the bat on day one. Coming to bat first after losing the toss, India lost their first wicket in the form of KL Rahul (2 off 26) at the score of 15 runs.

After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karun Nair added 80 runs for the second wicket. Nair got out after scoring 31(50) runs hitting five boundaries. After that, skipper Shubman Gill joined Jaiswal at the crease as the duo added another 66 runs before the Jaiswal lost his wicket after scoring 87 runs off 113 balls hitting seven fours. This was another remarkable performance from him after a hundred in the first Test in Leeds.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill went on to play a captain’s knock as he completed his half-century in 125 balls. The Indian skipper put up a partnership of 47 runs along with Rishabh Pant who got out after scoring 25 runs off 42 balls with one six and a four. After that, Nitish Kumar Reddy also couldn’y stay at the crease for long as he got out after scoring just one runs.

Currently, Gill is taking the innings further with Ravindra Jadeja on the other end. India are coming after losing the first Test and will be looking to win the ongoing match at Edgbaston to level the series by 1-1. Have a look at India’s playing XI for the 2nd Test.
