Pat Cummins to miss South Africa series to focus on Ashes preparations

With Australia set to host the highly-anticipated Ashes series at the end of the year, starting November 21, Pat Cummins aims to focus and maintain his fitness for the longest format. Speaking at the Sabina Park, Cummins told reporters, "I'll have a good training block for the next couple of months, six weeks or so.”

"Probably not bowling, but lots of gym work. (My) body feels pretty good, but there's always little bits and pieces you're always trying to get right and then build up for the summer,” he continued. The Aussie captain also hinted of making a return in the white-ball series against New Zealand and India later in the year.

“So it'll probably look like white-ball (cricket)…we've got some (matches against) New Zealand, India, potentially a Shield game and then into the home summer," he added. Cummins-led Australia cricket team will take the field for the third and final Test against West Indies, starting July 12 at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
