India continued their domination against Pakistan in the World Cup clashes after they registered a dominant 89-run win as per the DLS method against the arch-rival in the 2019 ODI World Cup clash at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on June 16. With this, the Men in Blue continued unbeaten streak of 7-0 over Pakistan in the history of ODI World Cup encounters between both the nations. For India, Rohit Sharma turned out to be the star with his knock of 140(113) runs.
Talking about the match, batting first, India posted a total of 336 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 50 overs. After that,, the match was affected due to rain as Pakistan got a target of 302 runs in 40 overs as per the DLS method. However, they won’t able to chase the target and were restricted to 212/6 in 40 overs. Rohit Sharma went on to score his second hundred and third consecutive 50-plus score in three innings in that edition.
Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli guided India to match-winning total
Batting first, India got a great start as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 136 runs for the first wicket in 23.5 overs. Rahul got out after scoring 57(78) runs hitting three four and two sixes. After that, skipper Virat Kohli joined Rohit at the crease as the duo put up a partnership of 98 runs for the second wicket setting the momentum for a big total. Rohit Sharma top scored with 140 runs off 113 balls hitting 14 fours and three sixes, while Kohli played a captain’s knock of 77(65) runs hitting seven boundaries.
In reply to a revised target of 302 runs in 40 overs. Pakistan were also looking in good touch with a 104-run partnership between Fakhar Zaman (62 off 77) and Babar Azam (48 off 57) for the second wicket. However, after the partnership was broken, Pakistan lost the momentum as India registered a convincing win by 89 runs.
