Former captain of the Indian cricket team, MS Dhoni is celebrating his 44th birthday on July 7, 2025. Regarded as the most successful captain of India, Dhoni has led Men in Blue to three ICC titles under his captaincy, including the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He is also popular with the title of ‘Captain Cool’ for his ability to stay calm and cool even during the intense situations of the match.
MS Dhoni made his debut for India in an ODI match against Bangladesh in Chattogram on December 23, 2004 and played his last international game in the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup against New Zealand in Manchester on July 9, 2019. In these 15-year international career, Dhoni went on to play 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20I matches scoring 17226 runs in all three formats combined.
Apart from his international career, MS Dhoni also excelled in his captaincy for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under his captaincy, CSK went on to win five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. Dhoni still continues to play in the IPL and has amassed 5439 runs from 278 matches in his IPL career from 2008 to 2025 so far.

Most matches as captain across formats (Tests+ODIs+T20Is): MS Dhoni has a record to play most number of international matches across formats. From 2007 to 2018, Dhoni went on to play 332 matches across Tests, ODIs and T20Is, winning 178 of them.
Only Indian wicketkeeper to hit double ton in Test cricket: Till date, MS Dhoni is the only wicketkeeper batter from India to score a double hundred in Test cricket. During a Test match against Australia in Chennai in February 2013, Dhoni played a captain’s knock of 224(265), hitting 24 fours and six sixes and India defeated Australia by eight wickets.
Most stumping in international cricket across formats (Tests+ODIs+T20Is): Regarded as one of the best wicketkeepers in the world and known for his lightning fast stumpings, MS Dhoni also boasts a record for most number of stumpings across formats in international cricket. The Indian wicketkeeper has done 195 stumpings from 538 matches in his international career.
Most runs by wicketkeeper in ODI innings: MS Dhoni registered his individual highest score in ODIs when he smashed a match-winning 183*(145) while chasing 299 runs against Sri Lanka in Jaipur on October 31, 2005. This still remains the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper batter in an ODI innings.
