With Mustafizur Rahman’s short Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 stint coming to conclusion on Saturday, May 24 with Delhi Capitals (DC) beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six wickets, he will eye to return for his national side as Bangladesh takes on Pakistan in a three-match T20I series. It is to be noted that Mustafizur Rahman was signed as Jake Fraser-McGurk’s replacement for INR 6 Crore after the suspension of IPL 2025.
But ahead of the T20I series, Bangladesh have received a massive setback as they will miss the services of star pacer after he sustained an injury during DC’s final league stage fixture in Jaipur. The fast bowler got hit on his thumb during a caught-and bowled attempt off Josh Inglis.
Mustafizur Rahman ruled out of PAK vs BAN T20I series; Khaled Ahmed named replacement
Bangladesh’s physio Delowar Hossain recently confirmed the injury to Mustafizur, while confirming his absence from the series. In his absence Bangladesh have named Khaled Ahmed as his replacement. "Mustafizur suffered a clip fracture on his left thumb while playing his last match of the Indian Premier League yesterday," Hossain said. "This injury requires a period of rest and rehabilitation. As per our current assessment, he will be unavailable for selection for the next two to three weeks. We will conduct a follow-up evaluation after two weeks to monitor his recovery progress," he further added.
While Mustafizur Rahman becomes the third player to miss out from the series, Khaled Ahmad will hope to make the most of the opportunity. In 2024-25 season, Ahmad picked up 77 wickets at an average of 21.34 across all formats. He also picked 20 wickets at an average of 21.55 in the last Bangladesh Premier League season.
