Stand-in captain of the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni ended his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign with a consolation win in their last league match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, May 25 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the win did not make much of an impact as the Yellow Army concluded their season at the bottom of the points table for the first time in IPL history.

With this, MS Dhoni also dropped a big statement on his future in the league, which left several of his fans, happy and jubilant. Moreover, as the Chennai-based outfit continue their legacy in the tournament, MS Dhoni also hinted on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s future with CSK. It is to be noted that Gaikwad was ruled out of the midway due to an elbow injury and MS Dhoni, then took the reins.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the stalwart of the game confirmed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s return at the helm for the Yellow Army. "Yes there are a few holes that we'd like to fill but one of the most important things was when Rutu comes back next season at least we are able to give him a team where he just needs to fit in 1 in the playing XI. He doesn't have to worry about too many things," Dhoni said.

These remarks from MS Dhoni, confirms Ruturaj Gaikwad’s return as captain as several rumours hinted on his release. Moreover, CSK would like to go back to the drawing board and address the low key points of the IPL 2025 season and comeback strongly in the next edition. Furthermore, the franchise will vouch on the likes of Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis and Urvil Patel, the three players who were signed as injury replacements and made a huge impact in the last few matches.
