With the IPL 2025 set to resume on 17th May after a temporary suspension due to the India-Pakistan conflict, the availability of several overseas players is yet to be confirmed due to multiple different reason. Among all of these names is South-African all-rounder Marco Jansen, who is reported to rejoin his team Punjab Kings (PBKS) soon. As per the reports by ESPN Cricinfo is joining the PBKS side in Jaipur, where they will be commencing their training sessions, before taking the field in their upcoming matches.
Jansen has been a valuable squad member for PBKS this season, contributing more with the ball rather than the bat. Having picked up 11 wickets so far, Jansen has been a reliable bowling option alongside the primary bowling weapons like Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal. PBKS has been enjoying a stellar season under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer and are currently placed 3d in the points table with 7 wins. They still have 3 more matches in the group-stage of tournament, including the next one against Rajasthan Royal (RR) followed by clashes against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
Jansen will leave IPL alongside few other South African players on 25th May: Reports
PBKS will restart their campaign on 18th May 2025, Sunday with a match against RR at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Jansen’s reported arrival is set to hand a major boost to the Punjab franchise as they look to secure important victories and seal their place into the playoffs soon. However, Jansen’s availability till the end of the season is still in jeopardy as he along with a couple of other South African players are tipped to leave on 25th May.
This is speculated to likely be due to the upcoming World Test Championship 2025 final set to take place in June, which will be contested between Australia and South Africa. Jansen is one of the names alongside other like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Aiden Markram etc. who are reported to leave their respective IPL teams on 25th May.
