Jamie Gittens, the 20-year-old English winger from Borussia Dortmund, is reportedly all set to make a move to Stamford Bridge and join the Premier League side Chelsea for a reported transfer fee of £48.5 million fixed fee plus £3.5 million add-ons. The young wonderboy is set to sign a seven-year contract at the club, according to several sources.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen their left-wing after they decided not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal, who was on loan with the Blues in the previous season. They believe that Jamie Gittens is a promising talent and if they shape him well he would become a huge asset to the team.
In the previous season he registered 17 goal contributions in the 49 appearances made last season marking one of his best campaigns since the time he joined the German powerhouses Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund’s Managing Director Lars Ricken stated that, "We discovered Jamie very early, practically signed him for free, continuously developed him in our youth performance centre, and also offered him playing time at the very highest level with the first team. "Jamie has repaid the trust placed in him with commitment, performance, and goals."
Gittens to be the perfect replacement for Chelsea following the departure of loanee Jadon Sancho
Jamie Gittens joined German giants Borussia Dortmund after two years in the Man City youth team. He has made a total of 107 appearances for the team since the time he joined the Black and Yellows. He registered around 17 goals and provided around 14 assists for the Bundesliga side. He currently plays in the U-21 squad of the England national team. Borussia Dortmund are known for producing and developing the finest footballing talents in the world including the likes of Lewandowski, Haaland, and Bellingham, Jamie Gittens could prove to be a rising star at Chelsea.
However, the 20-year-old will not be a part of the Chelsea squad in the upcoming fixtures of the FIFA Club World Cup as the Blues won't be able to register the youngster on time. Their new signing Joao Pedro from Brighton is likely to make an appearance in the quarter-finals against Palmeiras. It will be interesting to see what the young prospect from Dortmund has got to offer for the Blues and he will be eager to make a mark in the upcoming campaign.
