Punjab Kings’ vice-captain Shashank Singh reflected on his terrible mistake which led to his run out during the second qualifier of IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 1. Notably, while chasing a target of 204 runs against MI, PBKS were in tricky situation with Shashank and skipper Shreyas Iyer before Shashank lost his wicket by lazy running as MI captain Haridik Pandya made a direct hit. After that, Iyer also bursted out on Shashank and was also seen furious at him even after PBKS won the match.

Now, after the end of IPL 2025, Shashank Singh accepted his mistake and even said that Shreyas should have slapped him for this. Shashank also revealed that his father also didn’t talk to him until the final on June 3. “I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals," Shashank said in his interview with The Indian Express.

“I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner," he further added.

There is no better captain than Shreyas Iyer: Shashank Singh

Speaking further, Shashank Singh also hailed Shreyas Iyer for his captaincy in IPL 2025 for PBKS. Iyer became the first captain in history to lead three IPL teams in the final winning the title in 2024. However, he failed to lift the title this time as PBKS ended up losing the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Shashank also played a fighting knock of 61*(30) runs in in the final but couldn’t take his team down the line.

“Whatever I have spoken to others and seen, there is no better captain than him in current times in world cricket. He gives us freedom, he treats everyone equally. No one will say, Shreyas has an attitude. The youngsters in the dressing room find him to be a chill bandaa. Shreyas is the only captain, who has told us that if anyone has any suggestion during the game, he can come and convey it to him. If he feels it’s the right advice, he will take it. It’s rare,"
