Former England pacer James Anderson has divulged his views on renaming of the England-India Test trophy. The England Cricket Board (ECB), along with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been in the headlines for renaming the illustrious Test series from Pataudi Trophy to Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which was unveiled on Thursday, June 19. Both Anderson and Tendulkar are eminent figures and their records are extraordinary in the England-India Test rivalry. Tendulkar is the second-highest run-getter in the rivalry as he has scored 2535 runs in 53 innings of 32 Tests against England while Anderson, while representing the English team, has taken most wickets against India with 149 scalps in 73 innings of 32 contests.

Reacting to the renaming of the trophy, Anderson remarked that it’s a massive moment for him and his closed ones. He also lauded the rich rivalry between both cricketing nations. "It’s a proud moment for me and my family to have this iconic series named after Sachin and myself. The rivalry between our two nations has always been something special, full of history, intensity and unforgettable moments. To be recognised in this way is a real honour. I’m looking forward to seeing the next chapter unfold in England this summer. It promises to be compelling, competitive cricket - exactly what you’d expect from two great sides. This is elite sport at its finest," remarked Anderson.

James Anderson’s record while playing for now retired Pataudi Trophy

James Anderson’s record is stellar in the now retired Pataudi Trophy. The legendary speedster played 22 games in the series from 2007 to 2022 and clinched 105 wickets in 44 innings with six five-wicket hauls. In the English team’s series triumphs in 2014 and 2018, he stood tall against Indian batters.

In 2014, he became the player of the series with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, grabbing 25 wickets in 10 innings of five games. He continued his dominance in 2018 when he emerged as the leading-wicket taker with 24 wickets in 10 innings of five games.
