English fast bowler Chris Woakes stepped up to the challenge in the opening day of the second test by dismissing the in-form KL Rahul and breaking the opening partnership of the Indian team according to the English plans. He also dismissed the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy who did not contribute to the scorers and got out on a solitary run. When he knocked out the bails of the Indian opener KL Rahul, Woakes looked up to the sky in remembrance of his Dad.
After the match, the 36-year-old revealed that the reason he has got a tattoo is in remembrance of his dad. He expressed that he was constantly missing his dad during the tests and that he was feeling his absence at his home ground. In a trembling voice he said, "He's always on my mind, that's for sure." He later expressed how much his dad loved Cricket and that when he was alive he used to always accompany Woakes for the matches. He also said that his father would have loved this week of test cricket between England and India.
The English Pace veteran has been deeply affected by his fathers demise due to which he had to take some time off the game . At the end of the first day of the test at Edgbaston, Woakes when asked about the significance of his tattoo stated that, "I got it in memory of him. My Dad always wore a flat cap, and he would walk around the boundary with his hands behind his back, nervously watching me play cricket. He’s always on my mind, that’s for sure. There’s moments where I think about him. He loved his cricket, and he’d have loved this week.” as quoted by the Telegraph.
