England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday, July 15 announced England’s 14-member squad for the upcoming fourth Test against India, set to be played from July 23 onwards at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester. The Ben Stokes-led Three Lions will be coming into the fourth Test after having taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Coming into the Lord’s Test after suffering a mammoth 336-run defeat at the hands of India, England performed under pressure as they restricted India in their 193-run chase. After putting 192 runs on the board in the second innings, England bundled out India at 170, thus winning the third Test by 22 runs to take the series 2-1 up in their favour.

England add Liam Dawson in place of injured Shoaib Bashir

With the action now shifting to Manchester, England announced their updated squad, which saw Liam Dawson come in place of Shoaib Bashir. It is to be noted that Bashir sustained a finger injury on the third day of the Lord’s Test, forcing him to leave the field. It was later confirmed that the England offie has sustained a fracture and was ruled out of the remainder of series.

It is to be noted that Dawson last played Test cricket for England in July 2017. Speaking of his addition into the side, selector Luke Wright said, “Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire.”
