Donald Trump, the US President, has given the confirmation that he will be attending the FIFA Club World Cup final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid on Sunday, July 13. It is understood that Donald Trump’s involvement in the final got confirmed after FIFA, the governing body of world football, made an announcement about opening an office at Trump Tower in New York.
This development is significant because the United States, the current hosts of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025, will be co-hosting the World Cup next year along with Mexico and Canada. Apart from that, the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which is set to welcome the teams for the Club World Cup final later this week, will also be the venue for the final of the World Cup next year.
Donald Trump is chair of taskforce to oversee preparation of Club World Cup and World Cup tournaments
A taskforce, which was formed earlier this year to oversee the preparation of each of these tournaments, happened under Chairperson Donald Trump. FIFA President Gianni Infantino was quoted as saying about the new development, as per BBC Sport, “We have received such a big support from the government and from the president with the White House taskforce for the FIFA Club World Cup and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”
“FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local, you have to be everywhere, so we have to be in New York,” he added.
Donald Trump, who has been a part of several top sporting events over the years, recently attended the UFC 316 last month in New Jersey before stating that the White House in Washington D.C. will host a UFC event next year. Apart from that, he also announced two months ago that the US capital will also host the NFL Draft in 2027.
