With the Wimbledon 2025 reaching its penultimate stage, on Sunday, July 6, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev to advance into the quarter-finals. The young tennis star, who had a rocky start to his round of 16 clash, defeated the Russian 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to progress into the quarters.
Aiming to win his third consecutive title at the All England Club, Alcaraz looked vulnerable at the start as he dropped three sets in his first three games. But the five-time Grand Slam champion continued to stay determined and eventually won the game by a comprehensive margin to advance further.
Carlos Alcaraz to face Cameron Norrie in Wimbledon 2025 quarter-finals
With a win in an edge of a seat competition, Carlos Alcaraz will next face Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals. The Briton is coming into the quarter-finals after surviving a five-set battle against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3 on Sunday at Court 1.
Notably, the two have played five matches since 2022 where the Spaniard have dominated by 3-2 margin. However, speaking of their respective last five matches, Alcaraz is coming with a five-match unbeaten streak, Norrie has won four of his last five matches.
Apart from Alcaraz, USA’s Taylor Fritz also progressed into the quarterfinals after beating Jordan Thompson, who was forced to retire when the scoreline read 6-1, 3-0 in favour of the American. As Fritz sets his eyes on the grass court title, he will take on 17th seeded Karen Khachanov in the last eight on Tuesday, July 8.
